PHRONESIS PROJECT
University of Virginia School of Medicine
Curriculum
Our students learn about medicine in new and innovative ways. Working in Phronesis CPD groups with their mentors, each student is paired with an adult patient whom they learn from over 4 years. Their role with their patients grows as their medical knowledge and experience grows. In addition, the Phronesis Project uses monthly workshops and brief weekly sessions to foster the cognitive, compassionate, and reflective capacities of wisdom.
Our Students
They come from all over the world. Graduates of Brown, Princeton,VCU, Smith College, Washington University, Carnegie Mellon, UVA-Wise, University of Miami, Virginia Tech, UVA, and UNC. Common threads are travel, volunteerism, research, and passion.

Wisdom
Why wisdom? The calls for change in our health care systems have strikingly similar themes: they call for a culture of compassion, other-centeredness and self-awareness, relationality and collaboration, teamwork, embracing complexity, applying knowledge to discern the right action, and a re-focusing on the greater good.
